ഒരു ദിവസം, മഹർഷിയായ Bhrigu ദേവന്മാരുടെ ശ്രേഷ്ഠത പരിശോധിക്കാൻ പോയപ്പോൾ, വിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ നെഞ്ചിൽ കാലുകൊണ്ട് അടിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ വിഷ്ണു ക്രോധമൊന്നും കാണിക്കാതെ, മഹർഷിയുടെ കാൽപാദം സ്നേഹത്തോടെ മസാജ് ചെയ്തു. ഈ സംഭവം Goddess Lakshmiയെ വിഷമിപ്പിച്ചു. അവൾ വിഷ്ണുവിനെ വിട്ട് ഭൂമിയിലേക്ക് പോയി.

एक प्रसिद्ध प्रसंग में, महर्षि Bhrigu ने देवताओं की श्रेष्ठता की परीक्षा लेने के लिए भगवान विष्णु के पास जाकर उनके वक्षस्थल पर पैर से प्रहार किया। भगवान विष्णु ने क्रोधित होने के बजाय विनम्रता से ऋषि के चरण दबाए और पूछा कि कहीं उन्हें चोट तो नहीं लगी। यह देखकर Goddess Lakshmi को बहुत दुःख हुआ, क्योंकि वे भगवान के हृदय में निवास करती हैं। वे वैकुंठ छोड़कर पृथ्वी पर आ गईं।
भगवान विष्णु, लक्ष्मी जी के वियोग को सहन न कर सके और उन्हें खोजते हुए पृथ्वी पर आए और तिरुमला में रहने लगे। इसी दौरान उनकी भेंट देवी पद्मावती से हुई और बाद में उनका विवाह हुआ। इस भव्य विवाह के लिए भगवान ने Kubera से धन उधार लिया था। मान्यता है कि आज भी भक्तों द्वारा चढ़ाया गया धन उसी ऋण को चुकाने के लिए है।
समय के साथ, भगवान वेंकटेश्वर “तिरुपति बालाजी” के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो गए और आज वे दुनिया भर के करोड़ों भक्तों के आराध्य हैं। भक्त यहां आकर अपनी मनोकामनाएं व्यक्त करते हैं और भगवान के चरणों में अपने दुख-सुख समर्पित करते हैं।
